Across the world there are a variety of typefaces used on road signs and there is quite a distinct difference between some of them. The issue with this is some road users will be able to read some typefaces and not others. The aim was to create a typeface that was universally applicable and took the positives from a range of the existing typefaces in use.
To create this typeface, I needed to research what made the current typefaces so legible and suited for their use. Once I had found the features that I needed to include within my own typeface I began to develop the typeface. Creating the basic structure gave me a good base to further build out the complete typeface. I had to consider the use of Cyrillic, ligatures and accents whilst during development.
Once the typeface had been finalised, I chose to present it in a type specimen booklet. This allowed to me to show the structures of the characters and the relation between them in a more dynamic way than a simple sheet would have. I also created a poster series to show the construction of the basic framework.
